All Dressed Up Green and Nowhere To Go: The State of Lending and Appraising Green

Session Description:

Even if every builder and remodeler goes green, if we don’t get lenders and appraisers on board then we’re all dressed up and nowhere to go. You can build it and they will come but will they get the right appraisal and a mortgage? Join Dave Porter for this in state of the union session on recent changes in lending and appraising green and energy efficient properties. Learn about the difference in FHA, VA and conventional lending programs and the most recent updates and learn about proposed changes. Tips on dealing with appraisers and updates on green valuation will be shared including an overview of the new Marshall & Swifts Green Building Costs Guide. An update on pending legislation will be provided.

Speaker Bio:

Dave Porter has been involved in the real estate and mortgage lending for more than 30 years. He is a nationally recognized speaker, trainer and writer. He has presented and taught for several organizations including the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), the National Association of Realtors® (NAR), and the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA). He instructs the GREEN designation course for the Realtor Association, the Certified Green Professional course for the National Association of home builders and his company developed and delivers the GreenLending Specialist and GreenValuation Specialist designation program. He serves on a variety of national task forces and boards and provides council to governmental agencies, NGOs and corporations.

He holds four designations from the NAHB: MIRM (Member, Institute of Residential Marketing); CGP (Certified Green Professional); CGA (Certified Graduate Associate); and CAPS (Certified Aging in Place Specialist). He specializes in building, marketing and financing best practices and sustainability. Mr. Porter holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Washington State University. He has taught for Seattle Pacific University, Tacoma Community College and Bellevue Community College.

He and his wife were the developers and owners of the multi certified (including LEED Gold), multi award winning deep green demonstration home Going Green at the Beach.

Most recently he was Senior Vice President for builder business covering 13 states for Countrywide Bank. He holds four designations from the NAHB: MIRM (Member, Institute of Residential Marketing); CGP (Certified Green Professional); CGA (Certified Graduate Associate); and CAPS (Certified Aging in Place Specialist). He specializes in building, marketing and financing best practices and sustainability. Mr. Porter holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Washington State University. He is an approved instructor for the National Association of Home Builders and the National Association of Realtors. He has been a featured presenter at national conferences as well as on an Appraisal Institute webinar.
