The Market Value of Green Certified Residential Projects

Session Description:

Sustainable certification has played a positive role in residential markets that have faced significant challenges in 2007 and 2008. This presentation will document how and provide findings of residential property comparison work conducted in Oregon by Earth Advantage and in Washington by GreenWorks Realty. The assessment will also incorporate consumer, builder and appraiser survey and interview results.

Bios:

Ann Griffin is an urban planner and community development professional with 14 years of experience. Over the past five years, her public policy work focused on sustainable business development and the growth of sustainable industries as a targeted sector of the Oregon economy. She is particularly interested in the development of standards to measure and demonstrate the effectiveness of sustainable investment by the public sector and private industry.

Ann holds a masters degree in Regional Planning from Cornell University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University. She is a member of the American Institute for Certified Planners and the International Society for Sustainable Professionals. She is also a member of the Green Building Valuation Initiative Steering Committee.

Ben Kaufman is the Founder and Designated Broker of GreenWorks Realty and has overseen $50 million in real estate transactions. He holds a BA in Urban Planning from the University of Washington, a Professional Commercial Real Estate Certificate from the University of Washington, a Permaculture Design Certificate from Crystal Waters, Australia, a Certified New Home Sales Professional Certificate, and co-instructs a 24 clock hour Washington State approved Healthy Home Course Series for Real Estate Agents.Ben has been active in low impact land development and marketing and selling real estate for 15 years and is the current Treasurer of the 500 member Northwest Eco-Building Guild and is an Executive Committee member of the Built Green of King and Snohomish Counties program. Ben's recently led the effort to add Environmental Certification checkboxes to the local MLS.

Sterling Hamilton is a consultant in land use planning and sustainability practices. Mr. Hamilton conducts regional economic analysis and market research for a wide variety of public and private development. Prior to launching his own firm, Mr. Hamilton was employed as an analyst for Gardner Johnson, a regional land use economics consulting firm.
