In this session two leaders at the head of the green jobs dialoge will discuss the latest developments in this emerging market and clarify the role of green jobs in the future of our region.
Bios:
Colleagues refer to Kathleen O'Brien as a 'green building force of nature, evidenced by her lifetime achievement award as a 2008 Cascadia Fellow. A seasoned educator, ranging from hands-on teaching in intimate classroom settings with the 9-month Sustainable Building Advisor course, to delivering empowering keynote speeches to packed halls, Ms. OBrien has a unique ability to engage and motivate industry professionals with compelling and timely information. Ms. OBrien recently co-authored her first book, The Northwest Green Home Primer, aimed to inspire and educate the public on buying, building and remodeling green.
David Walsh, Senior Associate and Architect at Mithun, has over 18 years of experience designing and managing a wide variety of housing, civic, senior living and educational projects, including over half a million square feet of multi-family residential. David currently serves on the Board and Executive Committee of the Washington Clean Technology Alliance, an organization dedicated to growing clean technology business sectors including Green Building. As a volunteer on the Workforce Development Councils Green Design/Green Building Panel, David is collaborating with the labor, building and design communities to develop a new sustainability curriculum for all Washington State apprentices. David strives to be an agent for positive change and believes that environmental stewardship and job creation can work hand-in-hand.
